Martin Superville, born 26th November 1966, recognized his aptitude for drawing at age eight. At age thirteen, he decided to pursue art as a secondary level subject and applied to continue in the field at GCE (General Certificate Examination) level outside his alma mater St. Georges College in Barataria. From that time on Martin has continued to build his repertoire by getting involved in Silk Screen Printing, Sign Painting, Costume Design, Stage Sets, Package Design and Store Design. He is now the proud father of 3, his profession is Painting.
Self-taught, Martin Superville began painting professionally in 1988. His medium of choice is oils, but he is well versed in charcoal, pencil, ink, watercolours and airbrushing. Martin’s paintings include a wide variety of commissioned portraits for Angostura, Neal & Massy & many private enterprises, cricket scenes, sensational steelband and exotic Trinbago women, are some of the subjects that make up the repertoire of Martin’s paintings. He believes that his talent and gift must be used to document history, historical sites and dying culture. He often says, One must pause to appreciate nature’s beauty and the things we take for granted.
Not only has Superville exhibited locally, but his work has been shown in Washington, Belize, Antigua, Barbados, T&T & Anguilla; With over 25 solo exhibitions. He has also been featured in the much sought after annual Clico calendar. In 2005 TTpost commissioned Superville to create a series depicting Tobago’s heritage.
